Why You NEED to Become Capable (and How to Start)

Man reads book to become capable

When we look at what it takes to become a badass, the evidence points to 5 key traits.

I call these the 5 Pillars of Badassery and I’ve spoken about them at length before. If you’re not already familiar with them, check out my explanation here.

Now, of those 5 traits, there is one that I believe to be most important. This is the trait that all aspiring badasses need to address first if they want to make progress.

And that trait is capability.

But why is capability so important?

Well, think about every badass you’ve ever seen, heard, or met. Whether they were a friend from school, a pro athlete, or a character in a movie, above all, they were insanely capable.

Now, don’t get me wrong - this doesn’t mean they (or you, for that matter) have to be great at everything. It just means that they possessed a high amount of skill in whatever lane happened to be important.

And that’s the key idea here:

Being a badass means getting the things you want. Being capable means having the skills necessary to get the things you want.

Becoming capable is all about learning the skills that will help you achieve.

For example:

Makes sense, right?

Nobody’s ever accomplished anything cool without first becoming capable. They’ve needed a solid (and relevant) skillset to help them get there.

Which is exactly why skillset is the best place to start if you’re looking to become more badass.

So, with that in mind - here are a few questions to help you figure out where to start.

  1. Which area of your life are you most wanting to improve?

  2. In that area, what’s your biggest weakness?

  3. Is there a skill you could learn that would help you overcome that weakness?

  4. Overall, what skill could you learn that would help you see a dramatic improvement in your results?

Got an idea? Great!

If not, let me know in the comments and I’ll help you out.
